Dim Lights

This one was special, he wasn’t like the rest,considerate. Shy but not quiet. A teenage love that needed no explanation. “I don’t like to keep the lights on.” “I’ll turn them down low.” A compromise. His hand guides brown hair towards the brightly floral print polyester pillow. Tv illuminates the room. moving patterns on the ceiling like optical illusions.

“Come over.” A raspy voice over the phone. High tops,lip gloss, keys, go. Only street lights provide a glow to the long stretch of road. White cracked paint on the door and a flamingo in the lawn. Snow in the summer in small amounts on lacquered furniture.Green. “When you put your hands right here, I understand the five senses.” Tightness and horrid 80’s painted cranes washed out on the walls.
